Volkswagen Slovakia is growing: Successful expansion of the logistics center

The Volkswagen Slovakia production plant, in cooperation with Volkswagen Immobilien and Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia, has officially opened the expanded LOZ IV logistics center. The sustainable hall provides essential logistics space required for the future arrival of the new all-electric Porsche Cayenne.

Expansion of the Volkswagen Slovakia Logistics Centre

“Volkswagen Slovakia's Bratislava plant is the most complex manufacturing plant in the Volkswagen Group's production network and the Volkswagen brand's second-largest plant in Europe by production volume. The production of eight models from four Group brands and their technical complexity place enormous demands on parts supply and the associated logistics space. Due to the arrival of a new model – the all-electric Porsche Cayenne SUV – it was necessary to expand our existing logistics centre in the western part of the plant,” said Wolfram Kirchert, Chairman of the Board of Management and Board Member for Technical Affairs at Volkswagen Slovakia.

Volkswagen Immobilien and its subsidiary Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia are responsible for planning and constructing logistics facilities at the Bratislava plant. Since their establishment, they have invested a total of approximately 110 million euros in the construction of the LOZ III and LOZ IV properties and the truck traffic control centre here.

Volkswagen Slovakia's Largest Investment Project

“The completed expansion of the logistics centre in Bratislava represents another successful milestone in our first and, to date, largest investment project that we have been able to carry out abroad, with our subsidiary Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia as the developer and investor. As the Group's real estate partner, we are supporting the growth of Volkswagen Slovakia with these facilities while also sending a clear signal on sustainability. We thank our partners and Volkswagen Slovakia for their trust and the excellent cooperation over several years,” said Meno Requardt, Managing Director of Volkswagen Immobilien and Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia.

Volkswagen Slovakia: Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Technologies

In the new LOZ IV logistics centre, parts for the new electric Porsche Cayenne will be stored and sequenced in the future across an area of approximately 25 600 m2. Materials will be transported directly to the assembly line using trolleys or an automated transport system. The direct connection to the existing LOZ III logistics centre and the Porsche assembly hall enables short logistics routes and flexible use of logistics space. In addition to the logistics areas, which will be equipped with shelving, two office blocks with sanitary facilities, new parking spaces and an outdoor relaxation area for employees have been created.

In new investment projects, Volkswagen Slovakia places great emphasis on sustainability and the use of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. The roof of the expanded LOZ IV building was structurally designed to allow for the possible installation of a photovoltaic system. In addition, the existing LOZ III hall and the new LOZ IV hall are to be certified according to the standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) to highlight the high quality of the buildings.
