LUGER presents the new Flow-6 from HB-Therm

LUGER presents the new Flow-6 from HB-Therm
With the water-based Flow-6, HB-Therm is extending its Series 6 range with another product backed by a lifetime guarantee – now available for all ultrasonic measuring sections.

The new generation of flow rate measurement: Versatile, reliable and cost-effective

The Flow-6 is available in two versions:

  • Flow meter: pure flow rate measurement for maximum process reliability
  • Flow controller: with integrated controller for additional maximum efficiency (available in March 2027)

The extended configuration options make the Flow-6 highly versatile. Temperature-dependent variants cover applications up to 100 °C, 160 °C or 180 °C and are available with four, six or eight circuits. This allows the Flow-6 to be precisely tailored to specific requirements – efficiently and cost-effectively.

Tried and tested, precise and reliable: Ultrasonic measurement principle

With the Flow-6, HB-Therm relies on an ultrasonic measurement system developed entirely in-house, which has been in use in the Temperature Control Units Thermo-5 and Thermo-6 for around two decades. Since the Thermo-6, this measurement system has been backed by a lifetime guarantee. This guarantee now also applies to the Flow-6 and covers all measuring sections. The tried-and-tested measuring principle offers high precision, a fast response and a wide measuring range from 0.4 to 40 L/min per circuit. The flow rate measurement operates without any moving parts, reliably detects incorrect connections, is insensitive to fouling and pressure shocks, and is maintenance-free.

Construction and design: Robustness meets efficiency

The Flow-6 utilises stainless steel for all media-contacting components, thereby offering high corrosion resistance. Precise investment-cast parts with smooth radii and large sizes enable flow-optimised flow rates with reduced pressure drops.

Thanks to its compact, autonomous design, the Flow-6 can be installed directly within the injection moulding machine. This allows for short circuit connections to the mould and requires only two large-diameter flexible tubes to the Temperature control unit, thereby reducing additional heat loss. With compact dimensions of 239 × 175 × max. 506 mm (L × W × H) in the version with eight circuits and a weight of 10 to 19 kg, the Flow-6 can be installed easily and in a space-saving manner.

Maximum process reliability with the highest efficiency

With the Flow-6, every mould circuit is continuously monitored and recorded. This allows deviations to be identified, analysed and rectified immediately. The Flow-6 is integrated into higher-level systems via the Thermo-6 temperature control units.

The regulated version is based on tried-and-tested proportional valve technology with linear stepper motors and ensures optimum flow distribution. Individually adjustable flow rates enable homogeneous temperature distribution, faster heat transfer and stable processes. This contributes to shorter cycle times and higher productivity.

Communication takes place via OPC UA; via Gate-6, it is also possible to use DIGITAL or CAN. Intelligent functions further assist in finding the optimum operating point and designing the process efficiently.

When used in combination with the Thermo-6 – particularly the high-performance housing size 62 – the Flow-6 can help to reduce the number of temperature control units required whilst maintaining the same medium temperature. As a Flow-6 is more cost-effective than an additional temperature control unit, this results in a cost-efficient solution with a faster return on investment.

Continuously extended range of functions

The range of functions offered by the Flow-6 is being extended in stages. At its market launch in September 2026, the core functions for monitoring and analysing temperature control circuits will be available. These include flowrate monitoring and temperature monitoring, freely definable limit values, Sensor monitoring and an integrated alarm system. Historical process data is stored locally and can be used for analysis via the digital twin.

In November 2026, a software update will extend the functionality of the Flow-6. Additional operation, diagnostics and integration features will enable visualization and control via Gate-6, as well as autonomous operation without a Thermo-6. In combination with the Gate-6 interface server with display, the Flow-6 can also be used as a standalone solution. This allows older temperature control units such as the Thermo-5, as well as third-party units, to be hydraulically integrated. Operation and control are managed centrally via Gate-6.

The control version of the Flow-6 is already available as hardware and can initially be used as a flow meter. Active flow control will be activated in March 2027 via a software-update.

Flow-6: Cost-effective and efficient

The Flow-6 enables the benefits of parallel temperature control piping to be utilised safely and efficiently. Each mould circuit is monitored transparently, deviations are detected at an early stage and the effort required for fault finding is significantly reduced. This reduces scrap and unplanned downtime. Active flow control allows the individual circuits to be adjusted precisely. This increases process stability and, in conjunction with the energy-efficient Thermo-6 temperature control units, ensures a rapid return on investment. An attractive price-performance ratio and a lifetime guarantee on all measuring sections further ensure investment security.
