Slovnaft successfully passed ISCC PLUS certification and confirmed readiness for the use of recycled plastics in production
International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS (abbreviated as ISCC PLUS) is an international certification system that focuses on sustainability, reducing the carbon footprint and supporting the circular economy, including in the petrochemical industry. This certification is currently voluntary for companies.
ISCC PLUS certification requires the traceability of the origin and sustainability of raw materials throughout the value chain and ensures, among other things, supply chain transparency. It also serves as a guarantee of responsible production. Slovnaft underwent the certification process because it intends to use waste materials in the production of polyolefin products.

„This is a significant step towards fulfilling the long-term strategy of Slovnaft and the MOL Group, which includes chemical recycling of plastics, known as waste to chemicals. Through ISCC PLUS certification, we confirm our commitment that the products we plan to manufacture in the petrochemical section of the refinery meet our customers' high expectations for quality characteristics while contributing to building a more sustainable future,“ said Matúš Horváth, Manager of the Product Development and Advancement Department.
SLOVNAFT, a.s. has long striven to be a responsible player in the consumer chain and to comply with European Union regulations. The intention to use recyclate from plastic waste in production represents a significant step within the circular economy. „Our customers and partners can thus be confident that by working with us, they are supporting environmentally friendly and responsible solutions,“ added Matúš Horváth.
Slovnaft has also implemented mandatory ISCC EU certification at the refinery, which concerns fuel quality and focuses on the presence of the biocomponent added to motor fuels.
