Okula Nýrsko a.s. – from a technical moulded part to a premium design component in the EMURA 3 project

When an injection-molded part becomes a visible design element, quality requirements change significantly. The EMURA 3 front panel project brought both technical challenges and innovative solutions.

Plastic injection molding is the foundation of modern manufacturing. However, once a molded part becomes a visible component of a design-oriented product, the quality requirements increase considerably.

The front panel project for the EMURA 3 air conditioning unit by Daikin Czech Republic was exactly such a case. The unit is designed as an aesthetic interior element, which meant the visible panel had to meet not only strict technical standards but also very high visual expectations.

During production preparation, a Moldflow analysis was carried out and the mold filling process was optimized. Despite this, sink marks caused by material shrinkage appeared during testing and had to be eliminated without negatively affecting the part’s geometry or dimensions.

The final solution involved adjusting the injection molding process with nitrogen assistance. This modification helped stabilize the process while maintaining the required surface quality.

In the full article, we describe the individual project phases in detail and share key insights for manufacturing painted visible parts in the HVAC segment.
