In general, when we talk about carbon dioxide, our ideas about the environment are very worrying. However, it is necessary to put things right and say that this view is very simplified and incomplete. Global warming due to increased carbon dioxide production in recent years, decades and centuries is evident. There is no doubt that there is a need to reduce the production of these gases on a global scale. In the context of these discussions on reducing harmful carbon dioxide emissions, it is worth mentioning that CO2 is an extremely versatile chemical compound with many useful applications compared to the chemicals and methods used to date that are harmful to our health or the planet. Dry ice blasting is similar to sand blasting, plastics balls or sodium bicarbonate blasting, where the blast media particles are accelerated by a jet of compressed air and hit the surface to be cleaned. But that's all that resembles.
Instead of using a hard abrasive medium to grind (and thus partially damage) the surface, dry ice blasting uses soft dry ice particles accelerated up to supersonic speed. Their impact on the cleaned surface results in a kind of miniexplosion which removes undesirable layers from the substrate.
Because dry ice immediately sublimates, all impurities are removed without leaving abrasive residues such as contaminated water or sand.
Thanks to its flexibility, sensitivity control, environmental friendliness and performance, dry ice blasting technology has a wide range of applications in a wide range of industries. Dry ice blasting can be used to clean a wide variety of production technologies without disassembly on site.
Fields of application can be found in the cleaning of molds in rubber, pipes and heat exchangers in the chemical and petrochemical industries, in the manufacture of plastics in the food industry or in printing.
