K.D. Feddersen CEE GmbH introduces high-performance polyketone solutions for demanding coolant applications
K.D. Feddersen CEE GmbH, a leading distributor of high-performance engineering plastics in Central and Eastern Europe, is strengthening its market focus on glass fibre-reinforced polyketone (PK) materials for customers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In cooperation with PK producer Hyosung, the company supports applications that require high dimensional stability, chemical resistance and long-term reliability under wet and thermally demanding conditions, such as automotive cooling systems and industrial fluid-handling components.

“The Czech and Slovak markets place particularly high demands on material performance, especially in automotive and industrial applications,” says Stefan Jando, Account Manager SK/CZ at K.D. Feddersen CEE GmbH. “Together with Hyosung Chemical, we are able to support our local customers with a proven material solution for components exposed to coolants, pressure and elevated temperatures.”

Polyketone: stable performance in wet and thermally stressed environments

Polyketone is an aliphatic, semi-crystalline engineering plastic characterised by low moisture absorption, excellent chemical and hydrolysis resistance and stable mechanical properties. These characteristics ensure reliable dimensional stability and toughness, even in environments with fluctuating humidity or permanent media contact.

In addition, polyketone exhibits elastic and reversible deformation behavior. When reinforced with glass fibres, this results in a material solution with low creep tendency and favourable tribological properties. Polyketone also offers excellent fuel resistance without oligomer elution, supporting consistent long-term performance over the component lifetime.

The material is free of PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated chemicals), bisphenol A and formaldehyde and offers advantages in terms of CO₂ balance and VOC emissions compared to many conventional engineering plastics.

POKETONE™ GF30 for coolant-contact components

Compared to other semi-crystalline material solutions, glass fibre-reinforced PK GF30 is particularly well suited for components in contact with coolants. The grade POKETONE™ M33FG6A-BK0 with 30 % glass fibre reinforcement from Hyosung is already used in automotive cooling system components exposed to increased pressures and operating temperatures of up to 110 °C.

The material has been successfully tested in accordance with Volkswagen Group technical specification TL 52682. Although the specification is defined for PA66-GF30 materials, the test methodology was applied to polyketone on a 1:1 basis to enable a direct performance comparison. The results demonstrate clear advantages compared to conventional material solutions for coolant-carrying components.

Key advantages of glass fibre-reinforced polyketone (POKETONE™ GF30)

  • Low moisture absorption and high dimensional stability
  • Excellent chemical, hydrolysis and coolant resistance
  • Low creep tendency and good tribological properties
  • Stable mechanical performance under thermal load
  • Free of PFAS, bisphenol A and formaldehyde

Various application areas

In addition to automotive cooling systems, POKETONE™ GF30 is suitable for further applications relevant to the Czech and Slovak markets, such as pump housings, valves and components for industrial and agricultural fluid systems, including irrigation and greenhouse technology.

The grade is UL-listed and classified as HB according to UL 94. For food-contact applications, the UL-listed sister grade POKETONE™ M33FG6B from Hyosung Chemical is available in compliance with EU 10/2011 and FDA regulations.

K.D. Feddersen CEE GmbH supports customers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with prime materials from renowned, globally active manufacturers, local technical expertise and application-oriented material selection, reinforcing its commitment to long-term partnerships and high-performance engineering plastics solutions in the region.
