A new generation of engineered foam materials from Ensinger

A new generation of engineered foam materials from Ensinger
Ensinger introduces a new alternative of thermoplastic-based foam materials for demanding industrial applications. Compared to conventional foams, they offer higher temperature and chemical resistance, long-term mechanical stability, while maintaining low weight and energy absorption. Thanks to a modern manufacturing process, both the structure and density can be tailored to your requirements.

Material Solutions for Applications in the Aerospace, Electronics and Medical Industries

With performance requirements constantly increasing, conventional bead foams, such as polypropylene and polystyrene, often reach their limits. High temperatures, prolonged mechanical stress or exposure to aggressive chemicals are difficult to manage with traditional materials and are often uneconomical.

As a specialist in high-performance plastics, Ensinger now offers a promising alternative in the form of engineering foam materials based on thermoplastics such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polyethersulfone (PESU) and polycarbonate (PC). These materials offer the structural advantages of traditional foam materials, such as low weight and energy absorption, together with the exceptional performance characteristics of these engineering polymers.

Fine Cell Structure and Tailored Density

Production uses a newly developed, energy-efficient process that enables a fine and homogeneous cell structure to be achieved. The density and material properties can be precisely tailored to specific customer requirements – from ultralight components to load-bearing structural parts.

Wide Range of Applications

Ensinger's bead foams are lightweight, robust and impact-resistant. Depending on the base polymer, they withstand temperatures of up to 300 °C (PEEK) and are highly resistant to oils, greases, cleaning agents and solvents. These properties open up new possibilities for demanding applications in sectors such as aerospace, electronics, medical technology and mobility.

Product Formats in the Pilot Phase

The product range is currently in the pilot phase. Ensinger supports customers from the early stages of the development process. Project partners benefit from tailored advice, customisable material properties and strong technical support. The aim is to develop high-performance bead foam solutions that offer both functional and economic advantages. Beads in various densities and foam sheets in sample sizes are currently available for development and testing. Custom-moulded parts can also be developed on a project basis.
