Efficient physical foaming for interior applications: ENGEL presents an integrated production cell WINTEC with t win at K 2025
At the K 2025 trade fair, ENGEL will present the most advanced manufacturing solution of its WINTEC brand for automotive interior components. At the heart of the exhibit is the two-platen injection molding machine t win 6500 with a clamping force of 6500 kN, equipped with ENGEL’s MuCell technology for physical foaming. This combination enables cost-effective production of B-pillar trim made of mineral-filled polypropylene in just 50 seconds, while at the same time achieving significant material savings.

MuCell works with nitrogen or carbon dioxide, which is introduced into the plastic melt. The screw geometry, specially optimised for MuCell, ensures uniform gas distribution, resulting in a fine cell structure inside the mould. The result is a lighter part with excellent dimensional stability and visible surface quality – ideal for premium automotive interior parts.

The part being demonstrated has a shot weight of approximately 290 grams and is moulded from SABIC F9015 polypropylene. The mould from SIMOLDES demonstrates that complex interior components can be manufactured more sustainably and economically – without compromising on design. Using MuCell reduces both weight and material consumption, resulting in a lasting reduction in unit costs.

While ENGEL stands for customised solutions that meet the highest requirements for precision, efficiency and digitalisation, WINTEC offers proven standard solutions with ENGEL DNA. ENGEL primarily focuses on customers seeking a high level of innovation and customisation, while WINTEC supplies cost-optimised, readily available machines for reliable and smart applications. Both brands guarantee high quality, with WINTEC benefiting from ENGEL's extensive know-how.

The t-win injection moulding machine from WINTEC features a robust two-platen design. Short-stroke clamping pads enable short cycle times, while the synchronous locking system and servo-hydraulic drive ensure fast, energy-efficient operation. Its high energy efficiency, compact footprint and optimised maintenance access reduce total operating costs and ensure a rapid return on investment.

WINTEC injection moulding machines are equipped with the intuitive C3 control unit, which ensures clear production control with high performance. The new model of the fully integrated viper 20 linear robot handles part removal and reduces the workload of operating personnel. Integrating the robot and machine within a single control system increases process stability and shortens cycle times by optimising movement sequences.

The iQ hold control digital assistance system supports easy process setup by optimising the holding pressure profile. It automatically determines the ideal time and pressure for the specific part and material to precisely compensate for filling and shrinkage. The result: precise part dimensions, better surface quality and reduced scrap rates – particularly for complex part geometries.

During ongoing production, the integrated iQ weight control digital assistance system responds to changes in melt viscosity in real time. For each cycle, it analyses the filling process and automatically adjusts the switchover point to ensure consistent part weight. This enables scrap rates to be reduced by up to 85 percent and increases production reliability – a decisive advantage when dealing with fluctuating properties between material batches.

iQ process observer is also integrated into the production cell. This digital assistance system continuously monitors a wide range of machine and production parameters throughout the entire injection moulding process, detects deviations early and automatically provides specific recommendations. The result is a further increase in process stability, consistent part quality and a lasting improvement in equipment productivity.

With this fully automated production solution, WINTEC demonstrates what modern interior part production can look like: reduced material consumption, low energy consumption and consistent performance and quality. The injection moulding machines benefit from short cycle times, durable machine components and a compact system solution that can be easily integrated into existing production lines. WINTEC offers efficient plug-and-play solutions with high availability that deliver excellent value for money without compromising on performance – a clear competitive advantage for its customers.
