Plastic dump near Prague on fire, firefighters declare highest level of alert

A fire broke out at a site containing loosely stored plastic waste after 18:00. Firefighters stated on X that the area measures approximately 200 by 200 metres and the waste is piled to a height of around five metres.

As the fire could not be brought under control, the second, third and finally special fire alert levels were declared in succession. Firefighters advised nearby residents not to open their windows.

“More than 36 units are responding, and more are on their way. Nevertheless, the fire has not yet been brought under control,” they reported in the evening, adding that five firefighters had been injured - they had suffered from overheating. High temperatures are also hampering firefighting efforts.
