Additive manufacturing demonstrates economic potential – Formnext 2025 places an even stronger focus on economically successful additive manufacturing applications
The Growing Importance of Additive Manufacturing in Industry
A clear example of the increasing relevance of industrial additive manufacturing (AM) applications is the new and continuously expanding compendium by the VDMA Additive Manufacturing Working Group. This collection showcases successful real-world examples from the mechanical engineering sector and illustrates how AM technologies help address key challenges – from improving resource efficiency and enabling functional integration to developing entirely new components.
Formnext and the VDMA, a conceptual partner of the trade fair, are working together to increase the visibility of additive manufacturing’s potential in industrial settings and to drive its further development.
One of the highlights of Formnext 2025 will be its stage program, featuring three dedicated stages offering a broad perspective on additive manufacturing. Companies and industry experts still have the opportunity to participate – the Call for Speakers for the Application Stage and Industry Stage has been extended until July 31.
The Application Stage will present practical AM use cases from various industrial sectors. This platform encourages cross-industry exchange, with the goal of inspiring new areas of application.
“With the increasing industrialization of additive manufacturing, not only the number but also the significance of economically successful applications is growing,” explains Christoph Stüker, Vice President of Formnext at Mesago Messe Frankfurt. “Sharing these real-world examples is essential for establishing AM in other sectors and for developing new solutions to specific challenges.”
In addition to application-specific case studies, the Industry Stage will offer discussions on cross-cutting topics such as sustainability, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and many more.
In 2025, VDMA will again be featured at Formnext with a dedicated Show Case Area – this time under the theme "Profitable Industrial Solutions."
Throughout the year, Formnext also supports knowledge sharing through a variety of formats – continuously creating space for exchange, information, and inspiration within the AM community.
