Record 330 million euros. Slovnaft's investments were also directed to the modification of technologies for the processing of various types of crude oil
In 2024, the SLOVNAFT Group invested the largest amount of money in its history in the maintenance, modification and modernisation of its production facilities
– EUR 330 million. This mainly involved modifications to process equipment to diversify crude oil sources
and the modernisation or extension of the service life of production units.

Slovnaft invested a total of EUR 100 million in the largest turnarounds in its history.  25 production units were shut down, accounting for approximately half of the refinery. The work lasted six months, covered a total of four thousand pieces of equipment and involved approximately two thousand people from various professions from the SLOVNAFT Group and external companies from more than ten countries around the world. Together, they worked more than
1.2 million hours.

The turnarounds were also used to make process modifications as part of the refinery's plan to diversify the types of crude oil it processes. In total, the refinery plans to invest USD 200 million in individual, interconnected projects to ensure it is fully equipped technologically to process different types of crude oil from all over the world.

The most extensive modifications were required by the Atmospheric and Vacuum Distillation 6 (AVD6) unit, which is the entry point for crude oil processing. Alongside this, some key pipelines in other production units were replaced with ones made from more resistant materials. A sophisticated online monitoring system was also installed. This enables the refinery to monitor the condition of the material in the pipelines in real time and detect any deterioration that may occur as a result of the different types of crude oil being processed.

Last year, the second phase of a large-scale project to extend the service life of the ethylene unit in Slovnaft's petrochemical division required a significant amount of investment. This production unit was built almost half a century ago and is crucial to the production of plastics and other chemicals.

Another significant project last year was the modernisation and expansion of the production capacity of the PP3 polypropylene production unit. The production capacity for polypropylene, sold under the Tipplen and Tatren trade names, increased by 33 000 tonnes to 300 000 tonnes per year, with increased output of the most sought-after polypropylene grades.

Slovnaft also invested in retail last year. By opening four new filling stations, the company increased their total number to 238 and confirmed its position as the market leader. In selected regions, solar energy began to be used to prepare refreshments or cool beverages. Slovnaft's long-term retail strategy is to improve the quality of its comprehensive services. This is reflected not only in the range of products and services, but also in the development of the Fresh Corner foodservice concept. Thanks to this, Slovnaft is able to sell more than nine million coffees and approximately seven million hot dogs annually.

The desired transformation of the energy sector requires hundreds of millions of euros, as well as strategic decisions. Slovakia's only refinery makes these decisions in line with the long-term objectives of its parent, the MOL Group. Since joining the MOL Group in 2000, Slovnaft's total investments have reached
EUR 3.1 billion.

Slovnaft will continue its substantial investments in the coming years, 2025 and 2026. According to current plans, these should reach a total of EUR 350 million.
