Maier to expand Czech plastic car parts plant
Owing to a number of new orders obtained from automotive manufacturers, Maier is aiming to increase the plant’s output of plastic car components, reported local news agency Česká tisková kancelář.
Jiří Pospíšil, first deputy mayor of Prostějov, said that the factory’s expansion is to be completed by 1 January 2015. The project in Prostějov will be carried out by the manufacturer’s local subsidiary, Maier CZ.
“The company has received major orders from BMW and other car manufacturers, so now they need to increase their production,” Pospíšil told the news agency.
The new investment will create about 50 new jobs at the factory next year. The Czech facility currently has a workforce of 120. The amount of the investment was not disclosed by the injection moulder.
Maier makes car rims and a wide range of plastic interior car parts in Prostějov. Production at the plant was launched in 2006.
For 2013, Maier forecasts aggregate revenues of some €214m, an increase of 5.9% from €202m posted a year earlier, according to figures released by the manufacturer.
Maier has a workforce of more than 1,700. In addition to its Czech-based plant, the injection moulder operates facilities in the UK, Spain, Italy, Japan, Turkey and India. Maier is owned by Spain’s Mondragon Group.
