DESMA, a global partner in the elastomer processing industry, presents: Double-sided injection molding with the DESMA SEALMASTER 450+ DUO
Based on the latest SEALMASTER+ machine generation, DESMA has delivered a new special machine with double-sided injection. With the DESMA SEALMASTER 450+ DUO, injection can be performed both from the movable side and on the standard injection side.

Innovative 2K injection molding solution

The modularly integrated second injection unit, located between the clamping cylinder and the movable mold carrier plate, enables additional injection from the center via a 90° deflection. The nozzle of the vertically arranged FIFO C injection unit remains permanently in contact with the mold or the cold runner system, so that there is no risk of leakage due to nozzle lift. Other 2K concepts for horizontal machines have this disadvantage due to the necessary nozzle lift before the clamping unit is opened. This disadvantage can only be avoided with two injection units arranged side by side on the same side. However, this has the disadvantage that hollow body production or composite production would not be possible.

With this 2-sided arrangement of the injection units, separate cold runner systems can be installed on the left (clamping side) and right (standard injection side). Thanks to displacement systems integrated into the machine, cooling plates can be extended and retracted to enable hollow body production or two-stage production of rubber/rubber combination articles if required. Four-stage production is also possible for the mass production of high-volume articles.

Both injection units can be used completely independently of each other and can be operated with different setting parameters and different mixtures.

On the movable side, the entire injection unit moves with the opening stroke and is therefore offered either with a roller holder for rubber mixtures or with a moving platform.

Due to the vertically arranged injection unit, all sides of the machine remain freely accessible, which also allows the additional integration of automation systems on the rear of the machine without any obstacles. The standard operating side therefore remains fully accessible.

More precise elastomer injection molding thanks to the new clamping unit

The basic design of this new machine is based on the current generation of horizontal machines, including a drawer system for the temperature control units and a completely newly developed clamping unit with precision guides. The new clamping unit allows for very large opening strokes, which may be necessary for multi-level production or for integrated transfer processes to the other mold level, or integrated secondary injection processes.

All models in the SEALMASTER+ series feature the new DRC 2035 TBM process visualization system. This new visualization system is highly dynamic, resulting in significantly improved operator handling. In addition, operator registration is also possible via RFID as standard. RFID chips can be created using an integrated function.

This DESMA SEALMASTER 450+ DUO with a clamping force of 4500 kN is available with different injection volumes and, of course, with high-pressure injection units up to 3500 bar. Additional options for solid and liquid silicone applications are also available.
