Volkswagen Slovakia suspends production from Monday

Volkswagen Slovakia will suspend car production in Bratislava for three weeks and production of components for gearboxes and chassis in the Martin plant for two weeks. These are planned shutdowns as part of the traditional summer holiday, which is associated with the rest of thousands of employees, but also with planned rebuilding and maintenance.

From 14 July to 1 August 2025, more than 200 activities will be carried out across the production halls and the site itself at the Bratislava plant that cannot be performed during full operation. These primarily involve equipment installation and modifications to production lines, maintenance of robotic equipment and automation technology, infrastructure upkeep, cleaning of drainage and ventilation systems, remedial work and various other modifications.

Even during the plant-wide shutdown, employees in some departments remain on duty to perform essential work activities, such as plant security, energy supply and the finance department. Together with employees of external companies, more than 1 500 people will carry out the planned activities at the company. Production in Bratislava will resume in full on Monday 4 August 2025.

At the Martin plant, the plant-wide holiday is scheduled from 14 to 25 July, with approximately a quarter of the 700 employees working to fulfil customer orders during this period as well.

Volkswagen Slovakia is a reliable and stable employer that has paid a holiday bonus (13th-month salary) at the beginning of summer for decades, amounting to up to 70 % of average monthly earnings, depending on length of service. Many employees will also use the employer's contributions towards holidays abroad and at home during the summer as part of its extensive employee welfare programme. For holidays abroad, Volkswagen Slovakia provides a contribution beyond statutory requirements of up to 700 euros, depending on the number of family members. Employees are also entitled to a contribution towards summer day camps and residential camps for children.
