New car registrations in Europe in 2025: Slovakia ranks 17th

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) published data on registrations in individual European countries. Germany the largest, Slovakia 17th.

The start of a new year is traditionally a time to take stock of the past period. Slovakia's new car market remained virtually at the same level in 2025 as in the previous year. Slovakia (approximately 5.45 million inhabitants) recorded exactly 93 103 new car registrations in 2025 – a slight year-on-year decline of 0.3 % compared with 2024 (93 409). In the context of the region and Europe as a whole, this represents stabilisation rather than growth – particularly as the overall EU market grew by +1.8 % year on year, leaving Slovakia slightly behind the EU average.

The comparison between Czechia and Austria is interesting: Austria (approximately 9.2 million inhabitants) recorded almost 285 thousand registrations last year, while Czechia (just under 10.9 million inhabitants) recorded approximately 36 thousand fewer. Poland also stands out at first glance, with 597 435 registrations. However, it should be noted that Poland has approximately 37.9 million inhabitants (almost 3.5 times as many as Czechia), yet the number of new cars is “only” approximately 2.4 times higher.

Among the markets of the European Union, Great Britain and the EFTA countries, Germany has long remained the largest sales market. Great Britain ranks second, followed by France and Italy.
