Prices for this week 22/2020
Rising polymer prices in June
The prices of “commodity” polymers were affected by the following factors last week:
- BRENT oil price 35.29 USD/barrel, stagnant oil prices.
- EUR/USD: 1.1122, weakening dollar
- NAPHTHA (European 229.23 USD/t, stagnating prices,
- Ethylene (C2) contract price +60 EUR/t (680 EUR/t),
- Propylene (C3) contract price +60 EUR/t (630 EUR/t),
- Styrene monomer (SM) contract price at the time of writing this report is not yet known
- Producers under maintenance:
- Unipetrol: April 6, 2020 - May 18, 2020 (HDPE, PP, C2, C3), a restart is expected probably in early June. Production is likely to resume this week.
- Demand for polymer in May was “not bad”
- Advance purchases were typical in the last third of May
