Megatech Industries expands Czech Republic plant

  • 10.04.2012

Automotive plastics parts processor Megatech Industries has got the green light to expand production at its Czech Republic moulding plant in Jablonec nad Nisou.

The Czech Environment Ministry authorised the project after reviewing an environmental impact assessment, according to the Czech government's investment and business development agency CzechInvest. The scheme will get underway this year.

Megatech Industries Jablonec, formerly known as BTV Plast, is set to almost quadruple its polymer capacity from 1,001 tpa. to 3,960 tpa. as a result of the expansion scheme.

From August 2012, the plant is due to begin supplying internal vehicle trim for Volkswagen's new generation of ‘Golf' cars produced in Wolfsburg, Germany and for a new family saloon model, the agency reported.

The Jablonec operation, part of the Vienna-based group Megatech Industries AG., is one of three Czech plants operated by the company. The others in Liberec and Hlinsko were also acquired by Megatech as part of the Plaskov group at the end of 2009 from Czech private equity firm Benson Oak Capital.

Megatech, a developer and producer of systems and modules as well as parts, operates more than 180 injection moulding machines with a clamping force ranging from 25 - 1,700 tonnes. The company makes a range of interior auto components including consoles, pillar trim, seat and dashboard parts and door panels in addition to exterior parts for passenger and commercial vehicles.

Megatech also has production plants in Spain, Portugal and Brazil as well as technical centres in Amurrio, Spain; Bucharest, Romania and in Jundiai, Brazil.  It employs a workforce of more than 1,700.
